Concrete Foundation
C Concrete foundations are the base for the best of buildings. At Legacy Concrete LLC, we build full and daylight basements, crawl spaces, slabs, and more. There are several concrete foundation types.
A traditional T-Shaped foundation supports a structure where the ground freezes. A footing is poured below the frost line then walls are added on top of the footing to form an upside-down T. The footing is wider than the walls and a slab is poured between the walls.
Slab-on-grade foundations is a single layer slab that is several inches thick. It is poured to be thicker at the edges and usually rests on a bed of crushed gravel with casing wire mesh to reduce cracking. This type of foundation is best used where the ground doesn’t freeze but insulation can be added to help reduce heaving caused by frost. Frost protected foundations work only with a heated structure. It uses strategically placed rigid polystyrene insulation to prevent freezing in areas where slab foundations are prone to frost.
