A basic finished concrete produces a smooth surface using screeds and trowels, with a trowel finish being the most common. A broom finish is rough textured using a broom on fresh concrete over the troweled finish. A broom finish provides traction and slip resistance. A sand wash finish is decorative, non-slip, porous surface. It creates a sand-textured appearance to replicate firm sand seen on the seashore and has a semi-rough texture for skid resistance and beauty. It is often used for swimming pools or areas that tend to get wet.
